WHAT'S UP WITH JOHN LANNAN?
John Lannan -
Don't throw in the towel
He was selected in the 10th round of the 2008 draft. Fred and I have a tendancy of picking players we know little about that late in the draft as long as they have a funny or cute name. Nook Logan, Razor Shines and Lance Broadway come immediately to mind. John Lannan was a no brainer for this Beatles fan. His strat cards have been borderline awful at best. A lefty in a league dominated by hitters who kill lefties like him. And yet...and yet.....
The new lifetime leader for the Chicago Mob in won lost percentage is John Lannan with a W/L percentage of .612, minimum 50 decisions. Lannan's W/L record is 41 - 26. He was 18 - 8 in 2009. Real life injury in 2010 limited his IP's for 2011. He was in Chicago's minors for the first half of the season and was brought up just in time for the DC get together. Facing powerhouse teams face to face Lannan went 3 - 1 with a 2.96 ERA! Yovani Gallardo should have done as well (he was 1 - 3 and a 7.02). Lannan ended the season with an 11 - 4 record and a 4.10 ERA. Lets look at some of his other stats:
YEAR IP W - L ERA WHIP
2008 15 2 - 0 3.60 1.53
2009 194 18 - 8 4.91 1.49
2010 204 10 - 14 5.08 1.54
2011 125 11 - 4 4.10 1.58
TOTAL 538 41 - 26 4.75 1.53
How can a pitcher go 18 - 8 with a 1.49 WHIP and 11 - 4 with a 1.58 WHIP without being on the 1927 Yankees or the 1976 Reds? I have to go back and see if I can determine what his run support has been in those seasons. Lannan's real life WHIP is 1.42 at this point, I believe. Given Strat's penchant for fluffing up a pitcher's stats I don't think his Mob stats are out of line with reality. In conclusion, I have to say that John Lannan has been the luckiest pitcher in Chicago Mob history.
When at the Nationals game this year I was looking for John Lannan wear. There was nothing. Talk about disrespect!
